Lap Band in Action

The lap band system is the brand name of the FDA-approved, adjustable gastric band which a surgeon will insert in the upper part of the stomach. The lap band has been in use in the United States for nearly a decade now. Given its effectiveness in helping many people battle their weight, it has proven time and time again that Lap Band Was the Right Choice.

A Lap Band surgeon will make a series of tiny incisions, then use a small camera, called a laparoscope, to visualize placement of the lap band device.

The lap band is placed around the top of the stomach and situated in place with sutures. The port is then located beneath the skin on the upper part of the abdomen. Surgery generally lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, and an overnight stay in the hospital may not be necessary depending on each individual.
